Why fixed braces are still the instrument we reach for most
Clear aligners are excellent, and we fit a great many of them. But for a wide share of the cases that walk into a Coquitlam orthodontic office — a twelve-year-old with a deep bite, a canine that never came down, crowding that needs teeth moved bodily rather than tipped — the bracket-and-wire system is still the more predictable tool. What a year in braces actually looks like
Bonding day takes about ninety minutes and doesn't hurt. The three days after it do, a little. Then a rhythm sets in: an adjustment every six to eight weeks, a few tender days after each, and a mouth that learns the hardware faster than anyone expects. Somewhere around month four, other people start to notice. Somewhere around month twenty, we start talking about retainers.

Comprehensive braces in Coquitlam typically fall between $6,000 and $8,500; Invisalign between $4,500 and $8,500. The number depends on complexity, and we'll give you yours in writing before anything is bonded — with your retainers included in the fee, every other included item spelled out, monthly payment plans arranged directly through our office, and direct billing to your insurer. A closer look: what a year in braces costs a family in time
Bond day, about ninety minutes. Then an adjustment every six to eight weeks — fifteen to twenty-five minutes each, roughly twelve to sixteen of them across a comprehensive case. A repair visit or two for a poking wire. Debond, an hour. Retention checks, three or four in the first year, five minutes each. That's the whole appointment load: perhaps twenty visits over two years, most of them short, most of them after school. What the honest version of "braces" looks like
A sore week at the start and a tender few days after some adjustments. Food rules that matter for the brackets' sake and come off entirely at debond. A poking wire at 9pm, once or twice, fixed with wax and a ten-minute visit. A teenager who forgets elastics and a plan that runs a month long because of it. A debond day everyone remembers.
